Locate ICE Custody Records

To find someone released from ICE custody after a Payette County connection, begin with the official immigration locator and the county's recorded destination. An immigration handoff is not a community release. It ends one agency's custody while another begins. ICE search coverage also has a limited window for people no longer detained, so an older missing result proves little. A careful ICE detainee release search uses the correct A-number or biographical facts, distinguishes detention from transfer and release, and confirms the result through the responsible immigration office.

ICE Payette Transfer Paths

No identified ICE detention facility is located in Payette County. The Payette County Detention Facility is a sheriff-operated county jail. County analysis says its 2024 outside-custody revenue came solely from IDOC, not federal agencies. That does not rule out every individual immigration handoff, but it does mean the jail should not be described as a standing federal contract site without newer evidence.

If Jail/Inmate Records says a person went to ICE, call the event a transfer until ICE itself records a later release. Ask the county for the actual handoff time, receiving agency, and destination if recorded. Then use the ICE Online Detainee Locator System. The county record proves the Payette departure. ICE proves what happened under immigration custody.

Do not merge events: release from Payette County custody may be the start of ICE detention, not release to the community.

Search ICE Payette Records

The ICE locator offers two search modes. The strongest uses the nine-digit alien registration number, commonly called an A-number, plus country of birth. Add leading zeros when the number has fewer than nine digits. The biographical route uses name and other identity data. Spelling order, compound surnames, and transliteration can affect a name search.

  1. Obtain the full name, country of birth, and A-number when lawfully available.
  2. Open the official ICE locator and choose A-number or biographical search.
  3. For an A-number search, enter all nine digits and the matching country of birth.
  4. For a name search, enter the person's names exactly and compare the returned identity details.
  5. Read whether the result concerns present detention or a recent ICE release, then contact the listed facility or ERO office for confirmation.

ICE's attorney resources state that the locator covers people currently in ICE custody and people released from ICE custody within the last 60 days. It does not expose records for people under 18. After that recent-release window, no result does not prove that ICE never held or released the person.

Note: Preserve the exact agency wording and search date because ICE locator coverage changes as the recent-release window passes.

ICE Release Result Limits

The locator is built to help find a detained person, not to provide a complete historical immigration file. It may identify a detention location or recent release, but it does not replace the county handoff record, immigration court file, or an agency response about an older event.

ICE result What it supports
Current detention match ICE presently reports custody and gives a route to the holding facility or office.
Recent release match ICE reports a release within its stated recent window; confirm exact terms with the agency.
No result May reflect spelling, identifier, age restriction, lag, transfer, or an event outside the 60-day window.
County reports ICE transfer Payette custody ended, but immigration custody may have begun.
BOP result Answers a different federal prison system and should not be used as an ICE record.

An A-number is an immigration file identifier, not a BOP register number or IDOC number. Keep each identifier with its agency. Sending the wrong number can create a false no-result and delay contact with the right custodian.

ICE Detainers and Payette Release

A detainer is an agency request or legal hold tied to custody transfer. When local authority ends, a detainer may lead to another custodian instead of a trip home. The county release sheet may show the receiving agency or destination even when the public jail site has no roster or archive.

Call Payette Jail/Inmate Records at 208-642-6006 extension 1143. Give the full name, birth date if known, and booking period. Ask whether the departure was a community release or agency transfer. If it was a transfer, request the date, time, release authority, and receiving agency. For a durable copy, Sheriff Records at extension 1149 handles written public-record routing.

The Payette County jail release page explains how to request the operational record. Do not ask ICE to reconstruct a county booking, and do not ask the sheriff to decide an immigration status question.

ICE
U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement, the federal agency responsible for the locator.
ERO
Enforcement and Removal Operations, the ICE component that manages detention and related field work.
A-number
A federal immigration file number used with country of birth in the locator.
Transfer
Movement from one custodian to another without a community release.

Older ICE Payette Records

The 60-day locator window makes older checks harder. Start with the Payette release record if the county held the person. It can establish whether ICE was the receiving agency and fix the handoff date. Then contact the responsible ICE field office or use the agency's records process for the specific custody or release material needed.

State court records may explain the end of a local criminal case but do not decide immigration detention. Likewise, an ICE release does not erase a Payette court case. Keep the tracks separate: sheriff custody record, state court order, ICE detention or release record, and any immigration court proceeding.

If the person was instead delivered to the U.S. Marshals Service or BOP, switch systems. USMS manages many federal pretrial prisoners, while BOP manages sentenced federal prisoners. The ICE locator is not a general federal inmate search.

ICE Release Contact Route

Use the contact displayed by the live ICE result when possible. Facility assignment and field-office responsibility can change, so a generic Payette address should not be invented. When the locator does not resolve a current case, ICE's detention and attorney resources provide the official ERO channel.

ICE Online Detainee Locator System
Official search
Search by nine-digit A-number plus country of birth, or by biographical information
Coverage includes current custody and the stated recent-release period

Before calling, gather lawful identity facts and the Payette transfer date. Ask a narrow question: current facility, whether ICE custody ended, recorded release date, or which office holds the file. A narrow request is more likely to reach the proper unit.

Payette ICE Record Reconciliation

When sources seem to conflict, compare dates and custody scope. A Payette release time may be correct for county custody while ICE reports detention later that day. A state court order can end a local hold without ending immigration authority. An ICE release can also occur while a state case remains open.

Write events in order and keep agency names. The jail records its departure, ICE records detention or recent release, and an immigration court keeps separate proceedings. After the locator window passes, the dated county handoff and a focused ICE request are stronger than repeated name searches.

Juvenile records use a different route. ICE does not expose under-18 records in the locator, and adult Payette jail or IDOC assumptions do not apply. Ask the responsible agency what may lawfully be disclosed.

Confirm ICE Community Release

A recent locator label is useful evidence, but a critical release should be checked with ICE. Save the exact wording, search date, identity fields, and listed office. If the person was moved to another custodian, the next agency must confirm its own status.

The custody flow may be written as: Payette jail custody, recorded transfer to ICE, ICE detention, then ICE release or another transfer. That sequence prevents a county departure from being mislabeled as freedom from all custody. For a legal deadline or court process, obtain the official record and use qualified counsel.

Request ICE Release Detail

For an older event, identify the A-number if known, full name, aliases, country of birth, Payette handoff date, and exact custody record sought. Ask the agency what identity proof or authorization it requires before transmitting sensitive documents. A narrow request is easier to route than a broad demand for an entire immigration file.

When personal reconnection is the purpose, confirm whether the listed location permits calls and which office can verify a transfer or release. Do not travel based only on an old locator result. Facility assignments can change, and the public search may lag.

Preserve the search result, date, and agency response. If ICE names another custodian, continue there. If ICE confirms release, keep that event separate from any open Payette court matter or state supervision record.

Do not substitute Idaho VINE for ICE. VINE may help with participating state or local events, while ICE maintains the immigration custody result. A county VINE transfer notice can prompt the ICE search, but it cannot certify the later federal outcome.
